Salute to Education, Friday Night April 19

poster_aef_sed_2013-4-page-001EVENT: Alameda Education Foundation’s Salute to Education
WHERE: Rock Wall Wine Company at Alameda Point
WHEN: from 6 – 9 pm on April 19th
We hope you will join us along with Alameda Education Foundation this Friday to celebrate and highlight Alameda’s pride & joy.

“AEF’s Salute to Education showcases innovative educational programs in Alameda public schools in an evening filled with wonderful music, fabulous food, friends, and a spectacular view of the Bay!  Salute to Education recognizes the many teachers, staff, and volunteers from across the District who help make Alameda schools special, as well as local businesses that support our schools in so many ways.

The innovative program and volunteers being honored will be highlighted on posters throughout the venue and in the event program.  Guests can learn about the great work happening in our schools while also socializing and enjoying fabulous food catered by Alameda’s own Cafe Q, wine from local vintners along with other beverages, and great music provided by the Alameda and Encinal High School jazz bands.  There will also be a raffle featuring the newest iPad mini and other prizes.

Advance tickets are just $30 and can be purchased online or in person. To purchase a ticket online, please visit:http://alamedaeducationfoundation.org/. To purchase a ticket in person, please visit Café Q at 2302 Encinal Avenue. (Café Q accepts only cash or checks payable to AEF).  Tickets at the door are $40.  All tickets include one drink ticket and a commemorative glass, with additional drink tickets for sale inside the event. Proceeds from the event will help support AEF’s Adopt A Classroom, Middle School Sports, and Enrichment scholarship programs.”

Year 1!

A year ago, on this date 1/18/12, we opened our door. Much had changed since then. We quickly evolved from a deli cafe with ready-made model into a quick-service restaurant; largely by customer demand. Our weekday lunch time dining had evolved from a high-school cafeteria into a relaxed business-rendezvous place.

We reviewed and revised our menu to reflect our new focus and introduced dinner menu along with local wine & beer selection under the direction of our new partner, Chef Jesse Branstetter, former co-founder of Oakland Chop Bar. The Q[uality] of our food is now under Jesse’s keenly, watchful eyes.

We are happy to acknowledge that with all these evolution throughout the year, we are still able to maintain our mission of bringing to Alameda a serious eatery with focus on healthy, wholesome cooking, using organic and/or locally sourced products. We still make 98% of our food from scratch, with the exception of a few condiments.

Lastly, but most importantly, we could not have gotten this far without your support. Your continued patronage and words of encouragement meant so much to us. THANK YOU!

With one year under our belt, our progress continues to evolve. In the next coming weeks, please keep an eye and spread the word, we will introduce signature prix-fixe dinner menus, along with occasional music events. Jesse’s creativity will be putting in higher gear w/ our beloved, little kitchen!!! We are looking forward to seeing you then.

With our heartfelt and warmest appreciation,
All of us @ Cafe Q

"Café Q's menu brings a fresh, healthy alternative to the island. With a focus on local, organically grown ingredients, we serve our guests with quality cuisine without sacrificing value. Comfort breakfast dishes such as breakfast burrito, house-made granola; our lunch & dinner consists of seasonal salads, pasta, and sandwiches, all made to order--fresh from scratch and served with style. House daily-roasted meats, and custom spreads and dressings are but a handful of specialties made in-house. Cafe Q is committed to eco-friendly and sustainable practices, making an effort to conserve and protect our environment."
